The College Football Playoff Committee announced the latest edition of its 2023 College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday night, as it will every Tuesday until the playoff field is announced in early December.
There was little movement among the top teams. No.7 Texas remains the highest-ranked Big 12 and Texas-based university, just outside the CFP field with three regular-season games remaining.

Ohio State stays at No.1 for now despite Georgia strengthening its resume with a win over No.14 (then-No.12) Missouri. Although Georgia earned a significant ranked win, the committee still considers Ohio State to have more big wins.
“We talked about it early,” CFP chair Boo Corrigan explained during a weekly teleconference. “We talked about it in the middle, and we talked about it late to make sure that we had it. As a committee, the win over Rutgers, a top-20 defense, put up 28 points, another seven on a pick-six, TreVeyon Henderson being back for his second game, the win over Penn State, the win over Notre Dame, the win at Wisconsin, seven wins over teams with winning records really drove the day.”
Oklahoma experienced the most significant drop this week, falling from No.9 to No.17 after its second straight loss. Oklahoma State and Kansas, the two teams to beat the Sooners, now sit immediately above them in the rankings.
Notre Dame and LSU also plummeted five spots each after losses, while Arizona, Iowa, and North Carolina joined the CFP rankings for the first time this season.
Air Force dropped out of the rankings after a 23-3 loss to Army last week, leaving No.23 Tulane as the only Group of Five team in the Top 25 and the leader for the Group of Five’s New Year’s Six Bowl bid.
James Madison’s (9-0) situation could alter that. The Dukes are not eligible for postseason play or the College Football Playoff Rankings because they are still in the probationary period after moving from the FCS to the FBS last season. Both the university and the Sun Belt Conference have written letters to the NCAA to adjust its procedures and allow the school to participate in the postseason.
UCLA and USC also dropped out of the Top 25.
