The iconic Texas Theatre in Dallas will host the world premiere of a new documentary on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on Tuesday evening.

The series developed by National Geographic is entitled JFK: One Day in America.

The One Day in America docuseries already tackled the events of 9/11 in a six-part installment in 2021. 9/11: One Day in America received critical acclaim, winning two Emmy awards for outstanding historical documentary and outstanding promotional announcement the following year.

Now One Day in America is taking on JFK’s assassination ahead of its 60th anniversary, with the help of David Glover’s independent production company 72 Films and filmmakers Dan Lindsay and T.J. Martin.

The trailer provides a glimpse at how the project approached the killing of the president in broad daylight in Dallas on November 22, 1963.

The immersive exploration of the defining event was made possible in collaboration with the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza in Dallas.

“We wanted to broaden our audience and make it more relatable to perhaps a younger audience that doesn’t really know the story very well,” producer Charlotte Rodrigues told Military.com. Rodrigues also noted the project marked the first time the Sixth Floor Museum allowed anyone to colorize its archival footage.

The choice of the Texas Theatre as a venue for the world premiere is noteworthy since it was where JFK’s alleged assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, was arrested. Attendees will include Peggy Simpson, a journalist from the Associated Press who witnessed both JFK’s assassination and Oswald’s shooting, according to Culture Map Dallas.

Eager viewers can tune into National Geographic on November 5 to catch all three episodes of JFK: One Day in America. A day later the docuseries will be available on Disney+ and Hulu.

The Sixth Street Museum is also putting on a special exhibit called Two Days in Texas on November 21-22 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the assassination.
