A murder suspect was arrested Thursday in connection to a fatal shooting in Far North Dallas roughly two weeks prior.

Christopher Plant, 33, faces a murder charge after an investigation into a shooting in the 13500 block of Esperanza Road on the evening of September 29 led to him.

Dallas police have not disclosed what evidence tied Plant to the fatal shooting of Eduardo Flores, a 26-year-old who died from his gunshot wounds at the scene despite life-saving attempts by Dallas Fire-Rescue. Yet they did tell The Dallas Morning News that the shooter had had an argument with the victim prior to the fatal shots ringing out.

Plant’s bond had not been set as of October 13, according to jail records.

The fatal shooting occurred in District 11, which is represented by Council Member Jaynie Schultz.

As recently covered in The Dallas Express, this district logged the third-highest number of shoplifting offenses after a drastic increase, with reports leaping by 200% year over year from 10 incidents to 30. It also saw 10 of the 198 homicides recorded since the start of the year in Dallas, according to the city’s crime analytics dashboard.

Dallas Police Department has struggled to curb crime rates amid a longstanding shortage of officers. The city is policed by a force of only about 3,100 sworn personnel despite a report from city leaders recommending about three officers for every 1,000 residents, putting an effective staffing level at around 4,000 officers.

Meanwhile, hotspots for crime continue to pop up, especially in Downtown Dallas, as covered in The Dallas Express. Compared to the city center of its neighbor Fort Worth, Downtown Dallas logs significantly more assaults and auto thefts. For instance, the Metroplex Civic & Business Association recorded a difference of 12 times more assault offenses committed in Downtown Dallas than in Fort Worth’s city center in August.

Notably, downtown Fort Worth is reportedly patrolled by a dedicated police unit working in conjunction with private security officers.
