Red Oak’s search for a replacement for departed head football coach Michael Quintero quickly yielded a successor in Antonio “Tony” Holmes.

Matt Stepp, a reporter for Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, on July 8 reported that Red Oak ISD hired the now-former DeSoto defensive coordinator more than a week after Quintero’s departure for Cedar Park.

“BREAKING: Red Oak had named DeSoto DC Tony Holmes as their next HFC,” Stepp Tweeted.

Holmes brings to Red Oak a résumé that includes two state championships and a semi-pro football title, all won with his defensive acumen.

A press release issued by ROISD said that Holmes also built a 20-year boys track coaching career that includes state titles in multiple events at Southlake Carroll.

Holmes is an Irving MacArthur and University of Texas alum who is a certified secondary mathematics teacher, the Waxahachie Daily Light reported.

Quintero left Red Oak following a season in which he led the 9-3 Hawks to the Class 5A Division I state quarterfinals.
