A man was charged Wednesday with the armed robbery of a bank in November.
Jonathan Mark Fleming, 38, was allegedly connected with a bank robbery in Denton and another similar one in Flower Mound. A tip led the police to him, according to a media release, according to the Denton Record-Chronicle.
Fleming has been charged with aggravated robbery, robbery, and theft of property less than $300,000, according to the Denton Record-Chronicle. He was remanded to Denton County Jail. Fleming’s bail has not been issued yet.
Fleming is accused of robbing the bank at 601 W. University Drive. According to witnesses, a person holding a gun told the teller to bring him to the vault of the bank. The man took a currently unrevealed amount of money and drove off before police responded.
Amy Cunningham, a police spokesperson, told the Denton Record-Chronicle that the amount of money Fleming allegedly stole from the bank was not noted in the arrest affidavit.
The FBI is also reportedly investigating the incidents as well.
Meanwhile, Flower Mound and Denton police responded to another bank robbery which was considered similar to the one allegedly committed by Fleming in Denton.
The FBI, in conjunction with the Denton and Flower Mound police, conducted a search of Fleming’s home at the 2100 block of West Hickory Street.
An arrest warrant was issued Monday to the Denton police.
Armed robbery is not very common but has been seen to happen in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
In November, a man was seen robbing a Bank of America in Fort Worth, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
More recently, three men were arrested for aggravated robbery in an alleged carjacking.
In Dallas, there were 320 cases of robbery in February, according to the Dallas Crime Analytics Overview dashboard.
However, the most common crime reported is simple assault, with 2,326 reports so far this year from the same data set.
