One year after a well-known advocate for those with special needs was murdered, his wife and a team of supporters are determined to honor his memory and find his killer, according to CBS 11 News.

According to The Dallas Morning News, 53-year-old Christopher Michael Murzin was fatally shot on February 11, 2021, at about 1:04 p.m. on the westbound lane of LBJ Freeway before the South Polk Street exit ramp.

Officers who responded to the scene found Murzin inside his black Chevy Yukon with a gunshot wound. The 53-year-old was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Dallas police detective Tonya McDaniel said a 911 caller told police that a driver of an SUV fired a shot into the driver’s side of Murzin’s SUV after pulling up beside it.

A year later, Murzin’s murder remains unsolved. His wife, Christina Murzin, has formed a team of supporters who want to bring his killer to justice.

“The team is important because I couldn’t do this myself,” Christina said in an interview with CBS 11 News.

Christina, who is dedicating her life to Murzin’s work, said it is time for her husband’s killer to pay the price for their crime.

“They’ve had a year of freedom that they shouldn’t have,” Christina said.

Even though Dallas Police Detective Tanya McDaniel told CBS 11 News that Murzin’s murder was possibly due to an instance of road rage, the family is not so sure.

Karl Snow, a former police officer and a licensed private investigator, said the circumstances surrounding the shooting are unclear.

“It’s kind of unclear whether road rage, whether it be local people with a history of violence…even possibly, you know, people involved with gangs,” Snow said.

Snow added that there are signs indicating that there might have been multiple people in the shooter’s SUV.

Snow revealed that the Dallas Police Department recently told Murzin’s family that there were no new leads and the case is stalled. Snow would like to investigate further, but says that he has asked for the case file multiple times and been denied.

Anyone with information regarding Murzin’s murder is asked to contact Crime Stoppers. Tipsters can anonymously call 877-373-8477 to send in their tips.
