The 16th annual Curing Kids Cancer Golf Classic tees off on Oct. 4 at the Lakewood Country Club.
Prior to the golf tournament, a VIP Welcome Dinner and Cocktails hosted by Jeff McElfresh, CEO of AT&T Communications, takes place on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. at the clubhouse. Tables are available starting at $1,250.
The tournament play takes place Monday, Oct. 4, with foursomes starting at $6,000.
Curing Kids Cancer is a 501(c)3 organization devoted to funding pediatric cancer therapies. Grainne and Clay Owen founded the organization after their son Killian died in 2003.
Killian was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, the most common and curable type of childhood cancer. Unfortunately, Killian died after a four-year battle after chemotherapy, a bone marrow transplant, and experimental targeted treatments.
To honor their son and help other young cancer fighters, the Owens found Curing Kids Cancer in 2005. To date, more than $20 million has been raised. The golf tournament has collected more than $4 million of those funds.
Tournament events begin Oct. 4 at 8 a.m. with registration and breakfast at Lakewood Country Club. After opening comments and recognition of presenting sponsors and Curing Kids Cancer founders, tee times begin at 9:30 a.m.
At 2:30 p.m., a dessert buffet, open bar, and silent auction will be held in the country club. Awards will be presented at 4 p.m.
