Texans still have time Friday to sign up to testify before the State Board of Education as SBOE member Julie Pickren urges supporters to speak on social studies standards, a proposed state-mandated reading list, and parental-rights training for school trustees. Online registration remains open until 5:00 p.m. Central, according to the SBOE’s public testimony page.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the SBOE released draft Social Studies TEKS in February, moving the state’s curriculum overhaul into its next public phase. The standards will help shape what Texas students are taught in history, civics, economics, and government across grade levels.
Pickren circulated a call to action encouraging supporters to testify at the April 7-8 SBOE meeting. Her message highlights three areas: social studies TEKS, a state-mandated reading list, and parental-rights training for district trustees.

What Texans Need To Know
- Public testimony is in person only
- Online registration closes Friday, April 3, at 5:00 p.m. Central
- Testimony is limited to two minutes per speaker
- Late registration is available on site up to 30 minutes before the meeting starts, but the presiding chair decides whether late registrants may speak
- Written testimony may be emailed to [email protected] for distribution to board members and staff
If the number of registrants exceeds the time available, the presiding chair will determine which speakers are heard and in what order. The SBOE says registered speakers who are not called because of time constraints may still submit written testimony electronically.
For Texans who want to speak, the practical deadline remains Friday afternoon. While on-site registration is still allowed shortly before the meeting, the board’s rules make clear that it is only a fallback option and does not guarantee speaking time.
