Two people were injured on Monday following an attempted traffic stop that led to a car crash into a popular South Dallas pizzeria.

The incident took place September 12 just before 10:50 a.m. at a stop light in the westbound lane at the 2500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

It began when police attempted to pull over an apparently stolen vehicle for a traffic violation and the car sped off after noticing officers were behind them.

The suspect lost control of the vehicle while making a left turn and crashed into DJ Blackjack Pizza at 2536 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The suspect and an employee inside the business were both injured and were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident comes as the community is still in mourning over the beloved former owner of the restaurant who recently passed away. Frank E. Gee Jr. died in September at the age of 81. He, along with Terry Jones, founded Blackjack Pizza in 1990.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
