U.S. Marshals and the Texas Fugitive Task Force are conducting a high-priority search for an Austin woman connected to the murder of 25-year-old cyclist Anna Moriah Wilson.
According to the U.S. Marshals Service, Austin police have issued a homicide warrant for 35-year-old Kaitlin Marie Armstrong in connection with Wilson’s death.
According to Austin Police, officers found Wilson bleeding and unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds at a friend’s home in Austin on May 11. First responders attempted to save her life, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
U.S. Marshals are looking for Armstrong as a possible suspect in the fatal shooting. Marshals said the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force is “actively conducting a fugitive investigation” and is “pursuing leads” on Armstrong’s whereabouts.
An autopsy concluded the cause of death was homicide. After the shooting, officers identified a suspect and determined this was not a random act and that there was no reason to suspect a danger to the public.
According to the arrest affidavit obtained by ABC News, Wilson was in town for a race. Her friend came home that evening and found her unconscious and bleeding.
Surveillance footage from a neighboring house reportedly shows Armstrong’s 2012 Jeep Cherokee stopping outside the residence the night of the homicide.
According to the affidavit, Wilson had gone swimming with fellow cyclist Colin Strickland earlier that day.
Police interviewed Strickland, 35, on May 12, and he confirmed that he had been out with Wilson. He also confirmed that he was dating Armstrong, and the two had been living together for about three years.
The affidavit also states that Strickland had a romantic relationship with Wilson during a break in his relationship with Armstrong in October 2021 before he resumed dating Armstrong. He told police he had to change Wilson’s name in his phone and delete their text messages “to prevent Armstrong from finding them.”
An anonymous caller told police that when Armstrong found out about Strickland and Wilson’s connection, she “became furious and was shaking in anger,” the affidavit reads, adding Armstrong was allegedly so enraged she said she wanted to kill Wilson.
Per the affidavit, on May 12, Armstrong was “confronted with video evidence of her vehicle,” but “she had no explanation as to why she was in the area and did not make any denials surrounding the statements.”
Armstrong has since deleted her social media accounts and “has not been seen or heard from since this time.” The affidavit stated that Strickland last saw her on May 13.
Police recovered two firearms that Strickland claimed he had purchased for himself and Armstrong following the shooting. After conducting ballistics testing, investigators determined a “significant” chance that one of the guns was used in the killing.
Strickland said in a statement to KVUE that he has “cooperated fully with investigators” and expressed “torture about [his] proximity to this horrible crime.”
