The woman who allegedly killed a Fort Worth police officer by hitting him with her car reportedly told police she had consumed 10 shots before getting behind the wheel, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, family, friends, and fellow peace officers are mourning the death of Sgt. Billy Randolph, a police veteran of 29 years who was killed by a vehicle going the wrong way on an I-35W off-ramp on Monday.
Randolph was hit while assisting at the scene of a fiery 18-wheeler crash that had occurred earlier in the day. The alleged driver of the wrong-way vehicle, 25-year-old De Aujalae Evans, reportedly tried to flee the scene after hitting the officer.
“After about a quarter mile or so, she finally stopped. She got out and then tried to flee on foot. She was running from the scene.” Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes had said, per Fox 4 KDFW.
Evans was arrested at the scene running to a nearby Motel 6 parking lot, reported WFAA.
The affidavit also noted that Evans did not stop driving for another quarter-mile after she hit Randolph.
Evans told officers that she drank an unknown amount of alcohol between 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. before stating that she had drank 10 shots, according to the affidavit, per WFAA.
She is currently in custody at the Tarrant County jail where her bond amount was set at $750,000. She was already on probation for pleading guilty to shooting a woman in 2023. She got sentenced to six years in probation.
