Tarrant County Commissioner Court seats for Precincts 1 and 3 are now open due to the retirement of two commissioners.
Democrat Roy Charles Brooks, Precinct 1, has been a country commissioner for 20 years, and Republican Gary Fickes, Precinct 3, for 18 years, reported NBC 5 DFW.
Both recently announced their retirement.
Roderick Miles Jr., Brooks’s executive administrator, is running for Precinct 1 and facing a challenge from retired police officer and Republican candidate Michael Barber.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Miles may have used his county government email to solicit campaign donations.
“Good morning Pauline, it was great meeting you at NACo this weekend. This is Roderick Miles with Commissioner Roy Brooks office in Tarrant County. Thank you for your encouraging words and support. I look forward to us working together. For your reference here is my information as requested: PO Box 51372 Fort Worth, TX 76105,” reads a July 16 email that Miles sent.
In Precinct 3, Matt Krause, a Republican and former Texas Representative, is competing against Laura Leeman, a small business owner and Democratic candidate.
The last day of voting is November 5.
