(Texas Scorecard) – Tarrant County Republicans have voted to reject John Cornyn, the senior U.S. senator from Texas, as a possible candidate for majority leader of the U.S. Senate.
On Saturday, members of the Tarrant County GOP Executive Committee passed a resolution stating that because Cornyn has sided with Democrats in the past, he would be the wrong fit to lead Republicans in the U.S. Senate.
“John Cornyn, who repeatedly has stood against Republicans and sided with the Democrats pushing omnibus bills that do not benefit Americans, is being considered as a top contender for this role,” reads the resolution.
The resolution continues that the Tarrant County GOP would rather see someone who represents the “America First” agenda in that position.
“BE IT RESOLVED that Tarrant County Republican Party rejects John Cornyn as a possible Majority leader of the United States Senate and encourages Republican US Senators to elect a majority leader that represents President Trump and the America First Agenda, such as Rick Scott and John Kennedy.”
Tarrant County GOP Chairman Bo French told Texas Scorecard that Republicans are tired of people trying to undermine Trump’s conservative agenda.
“More and more I hear from Republicans that they not only want Trump to succeed but more importantly, don’t want anyone holding up that agenda,” said French. “People are rightly frustrated with some Republicans who have undermined Trump’s agenda in the past.”
The local GOP will share the resolution with all Republican U.S. Senators and Senators-elect to encourage them to choose a better candidate.
Other senators currently vying for the position include South Dakota’s John Thune and Florida’s Rick Scott.
