As the general election approaches, many candidates are focusing on Tarrant County.

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and his challenger, U.S. Rep. Colin Allred, held dueling events this past weekend in Tarrant County. Cruz held an event at a Keller barbeque restaurant with local Republicans, while Allred held one at a Fort Worth honky tonk with local Democrats.

Cruz stressed that winning Tarrant County is a major imperative for his campaign.

“This is a battle between sane and crazy,” Cruz said, the Dallas Morning News reported.

“This race is about keeping Texas, Texas.”

“We’ve got one month—one month to stand up for the state that we know we are,” he said at Tulips FTW, the Dallas Morning News added.

Tarrant County GOP Chairman Bo French stressed the need to get involved and keep Tarrant County red.

“Tarrant County is in a precarious position,” French said at the Cruz rally, the DMN reported.

“I’m gonna tell you, we have a lot of work to do.”

Tarrant County is described as the largest Republican-controlled county in the nation.
In 2018, Beto O’Rourke narrowly won the county, and President Joe Biden also narrowly won the county in the 2020 election, reported the DMN.

However, down-ballot Democrats lost races.

“Four years ago, Biden carried Tarrant County by 1,826 votes, but Republican efforts to win down the ballot proved to be a great success,” former Tarrant County GOP executive director Jeremy Bradford told the newspaper.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, former Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley, a Republican, joined local Democrats at an event supporting Cruz’s Democratic challenger, Allred.

Whitley was criticized by several local Republican leaders.

“We all know why. He was always a Democrat. Maybe it was his love of tyranny during the COVID scamdemic. Maybe it was his giving taxpayer money to one of the biggest enablers of the illegal alien invasion. But this is not news. He love the democrat agenda,” French posted on X (formerly Twitter).
