More than 40 acres of developed land in the City of Fort Worth will be rezoned following a vote from the Fort Worth City Council on October 15.
The rezoning was pushed by the Basswood Elementary School community regarding a proposed Studio 6 motel adjacent to the school, reported KERA News.
“Established in 2008, Basswood is a bilingual Title 1 campus that serves students from Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade. All of the Basswood Elementary attendance zone currently advances through the Fossil Ridge High School feeder pattern,” the Keller ISD website states about Basswood Elementary school.
“Studio 6 welcomes travelers in key extended stay markets in the United States and Canada, allowing guests to ‘Extend your stay, not your budget.’ The studios feature living areas and fully furnished kitchens along with linens and cookware and free Wi-Fi at an inclusive, transparent rate, competitive to other economy extended stay hotels,” the Studio 6 website states.
Parents from Basswood were concerned that it would attract crime to their area, reported KERA News.
Some council members who voted for the change stated that the new zoning would protect the community while allowing growth in the area.
“Parents of students at Basswood Elementary, as well as faculty, can rest easy knowing they’ll have greater say in what happens next in their neighborhood,” Fort Worth City Councilmember Charles Lauersdorf said, reported KERA News.
There has been no opposition to the rezoning as of now.
