Fort Worth Democrat City Council members faced criticism from residents over their response to the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Charlie Kirk, the co-founder of Turning Point USA, was assassinated during a Q&A with students at Utah Valley University on September 10.
Democrat council members Chris Nettles and Deborah Peoples defended Councilwoman Elizabeth Beck after she posted a controversial Instagram story mocking Kirk following his assassination. The post, later deleted, sparked outrage in the community, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
During public comment at a recent council meeting, residents directly criticized Beck and Nettles.
“Councilwoman Beck saw that and made a post mocking Charlie. I just don’t get it. This is not a random Twitter troll; this is an elected leader,” resident, Jamie Von Thron, said.
Thron also noted the wider reaction to Kirk’s death, adding, “There’s a sickness in this nation. We need healing.”
Another speaker, Paige Wallace, criticized both officials, saying social media revealed how “leftists” really think.
“They openly mock that tragic assassination of someone that they don’t agree with,” Wallace said. “Does that sound like an elected official you would be comfortable having power to make laws?”
Wallace also criticized Nettles for opposing the city’s decision to lower flags to half-staff in honor of Kirk. Internal City of Fort Worth emails obtained by The Dallas Express show Nettles complained to staff about the decision, arguing that “times have dramatically changed.”
“Times have changed, the times of people like you who actually spread hate and division and bully those who don’t agree with you will no longer be calling the shots,” Wallace told Nettles during her remarks.
The atmosphere in the council chambers grew tense when a woman in the audience laughed each time speakers mentioned Kirk’s assassination. Mayor Mattie Parker called out the individual, Tina, requesting that she be quiet. To this warning, the woman still appeared combative.
🚨DISRUPTION🚨A black woman sitting in the Fort Worth City Hall would laugh everytime a conservative spoke about the Charlie Kirk Assass*nation. The Mayor of called her out for the disruption.
The Left laughs when conservatives d*e.
