More reactions to the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump are coming in from elected officials in Tarrant County, some of whom blame the mainstream media.

“It has never been more clear that we are in a battle for the future of America, and President Trump is on the front lines! First, his reputation was attacked, then the establishment attempted to imprison him, and now he has taken a bullet for us! That is and always will be my president,” Rep. Nate Schatzline (R-Fort Worth) said in a statement to The Dallas Express.

“It’s time to unite in prayer for President Trump, the family of the man who lost his life while exercising his freedom of speech, and all others who were hurt as a result of yesterday’s attack. Let’s Take Back America!” he added.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, 50-year-old Corey Comperatore was killed during the assassination attempt on Saturday, shielding his wife and daughter with his body.

Two other bystanders, identified as 57-year-old David Dutch and 74-year-old James Copenhaver, sustained serious wounds from the shooting. Both are reportedly in stable condition as of Sunday afternoon.

“Following the eight years of lies and attacks from the left on Donald Trump and his supporters, none of us were surprised that they tried to assassinate him. Many of us have been predicting that for some time,” Tarrant County Republican Party Chair Bo French told DX.

“We now know, more than ever, that our country has to be rescued from the authoritarian tendencies of the left,” he added.

Laura Prichett, a trustee for Tarrant County College, said it was obvious that “political rhetoric” created the conditions in which someone would try to murder Trump.

“Regardless of one’s personal opinions and beliefs, violence at any level is unacceptable. I am thankful for the actions of the Secret Service and the other law enforcement agencies who protected Mr. Trump and kept the crowd safe. My heart goes out to the family of the man who lost his life and all who were injured,” she said in a statement to DX.

She credited God with protecting the former president and wished the same for President Joe Biden.

“Prayers for continued protection of both (presumptive) presidential nominees, their families, and all who are a part of their campaigns,” she said.
