As previously reported by The Dallas Express, our team visited Tradition Senior Living in Fort Worth to verify whether Granger was residing there after noticing that her office appeared unstaffed and phone calls to the congresswoman went unanswered. Two employees at the facility confirmed that Granger was a resident there. However, we were not allowed to interview Granger.

The 81-year-old Congresswoman has not voted since late July, according to Congressional records.

The Dallas Express exclusive story revealing that Granger resides in a senior living facility ricocheted around the world this weekend.

However, local outlets, such as the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Fort Worth Report, took two days to report on the story after DX’s exclusive broke, writing brief articles downplaying the story’s impact and broader implications.

“Retiring Fort Worth-area U.S. Rep. Kay Granger experiencing ‘health challenges'” the Star-Telegram article read.

“Retiring U.S. Rep. Kay Granger discloses ‘health challenges’ after congressional absences,” the Fort Worth Report article read.

Why did the very media outlets in Granger’s District 12 not report on such a significant story until days following the breaking story from The Dallas Express? Could there be something behind the downplay?

According to the Fort Worth Report supporters page, former Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief and City Council Member Michael Crain have donated to FWR, and Crain is also listed as a founding member.

Both men have been supportive of Congresswoman Granger over the years. Days after The Dallas Express exclusive story, Crain wrote an article called, “Set the rumors aside. It’s time to honor Kay Granger for all she has done for Fort Worth,” which was published as a Star-Telegram opinion piece.

“She has certainly served us with distinction. She has made Fort Worth a well-known name, not only in the Congressional scene, but everywhere she has traveled. She indeed delivered the goods for those who put her in office,” Moncrief said last year, CBS reported.

The Dallas Express reached out to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Fort Worth Report for comment but did not receive a response.
