Keller Mayor Armin Mizani announced that the City Council will soon discuss ways to require contractors and subcontractors bidding on city projects to use the federal E-Verify system.
“The City of Keller doesn’t follow — we lead by example,” Mizani said in an official statement from his office.
Mizani explained that the proposed move aims to ensure that employers hiring for city projects verify their employees’ legal work eligibility.
“Law-abiding employers should never be placed at a disadvantage for doing the right thing,” he said. “Our city’s prosperity — and Texas’s future — depend on fairness, personal responsibility, and respect for the laws that make our state and nation strong.”
The E-Verify program allows employers to confirm that their workers are authorized to work in the United States. Mizani described the system as “a trusted program that helps employers confirm the legal work eligibility of their employees, ensuring that jobs funded by taxpayers go to companies that hire and operate lawfully.”
He called the proposal a “commonsense, America-first step” that would “protect local jobs, uphold our nation’s laws, and ensure fair competition for businesses that play by the rules.” Mizani added that E-Verify has enjoyed “broad and bipartisan support.”
“In Keller, we are guided by the belief that those who do business with the city should share our values of legality, integrity, and accountability to the taxpayers who make our community thrive,” he said.
Mizani concluded his message by reaffirming his support for fair labor practices and responsible city partnerships. “I look forward to the discussions ahead in support of lawful employment, honest businesses, and hard-working Texans,” he said.
