A recent gathering of a women’s group in Tarrant County led to speculation that Mayor Mattie Parker would run for re-election next year.
Parker attended a panel discussion on Wednesday hosted by the Women’s Policy Forum of Tarrant County.
The organization is comprised of “influential women who investigate and support policies and initiatives that will create positive change for Tarrant County women and our community. … More than 125 Tarrant County women who are elected officials or who hold staff or volunteer leadership positions in government, business, or the nonprofit sector are members.”

During the panel discussion, an attendee asked the city council members if they planned to seek re-election in May 2025, reported the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. All of the council members, as well as Parker, raised their hands in response, with the exception of Council Member Gyna Bivens, who announced in April 2023 that she would only serve one more term, according to the Star-Telegram.

Despite Parker raising her hand, a spokesperson told the Star-Telegram, “People can continue to speculate, but the Mayor hasn’t made a decision.”
According to the spokesperson, a formal announcement will be made when Parker makes her decision.
Residents of Fort Worth will know soon enough, as the filing deadline for candidates is February 14.
