Gov. Greg Abbott announced on Tuesday that Tarrant County College has been awarded a $1,272,322 grant from the Texas Workforce Commission to boost workforce development in Texas.

This funding will be directed towards specialized job training to enhance the skills of over 630 employees at Cummings Electrical, a key player in the electrical contracting industry.

During a ceremony held at Tarrant County College Opportunity Center in Fort Worth, Texas Workforce Commission Chairman Bryan Daniel presented the awarded grant to representatives from Tarrant County College (TCC), Cummings Electrical, and other local partners.

According to a press release from Gov. Abbott’s office, the grant is part of the Skills Development Fund (SDF), a statewide initiative designed to support businesses in training their internal workforce to meet the demands of high-demand occupations that require further training.

“We continue to prepare Texas for the workforce of tomorrow by investing in programs that provide critical training for Texans looking to jumpstart their career in high-demand industries,” stated Gov. Abbott in the press release.

“This workforce training grant will provide hardworking Texans with valuable upskilling opportunities to take their careers to new heights. Through partnerships like this between the Texas Workforce Commission and Tarrant County College, we will continue to train Texans for high-demand, good-paying jobs and build a more prosperous economic future for our state,” he added.

The grant will facilitate customized training programs that are tailored to the specific needs of Cummings Electrical, addressing skills gaps and preparing employees for advanced roles within the company.

“The Skills Development Fund helps to ensure the Texas workforce is prepared to fill high-demand jobs. Partnerships like the one with Tarrant County College play a big part in TWC’s mission to help Texans advance their careers,” said Daniel.

According to the governor, the training programs funded by this grant will not only support employees at Cummings Electrical but also contribute to Tarrant County’s overall economic growth.

Since its start in 1996, the Skills Development Fund has partnered with over 4,800 employers, creating or upgrading more than 420,000 jobs across Texas.
