Several GOP County Chairs have released a statement condemning State Rep. Dustin Burrows — and Republican lawmakers who support him — while announcing their support for State Rep. David Cook for the Texas House Speaker.
Tarrant County GOP boss Bo French used his platform on X to introduce the letter, which was signed by 16 GOP county chairs from across the state, including Allen West in Dallas County.

“Texas voters have spoken. In November, they delivered a resounding mandate for conservative leadership in re-electing President Donald J. Trump and in choosing Republicans to represent them in the Texas Legislature,” the Tarrant County GOP letter said.
“David Cook is a proven conservative who is committed to the Texas GOP legislative priorities and platform and to ending the long-standing practice of empowering Democrats with committee chairmanship. Unfortunately, a small group of Republicans chose to abandon the caucus process and, in doing so, the will of the Republican majority. Led by Dustin Burrows, these representatives are now negotiating with Democrats to install a Speaker who would undermine the conservative agenda,” the letter said.
West made a previous statement condemning State Reps. Morgan Meyer and Angie Chen Button for supporting Burrows.
“If the Dallas County Republican Party Executive Committee advances a resolution to censure Reps. Meyer and Button, it will have my support. The other thing I despise is the arrogance of officialdom. My message to these two State Representatives is simple, you reap what you sow,” West said in a statement.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, State Rep. David Cook (R-Mansfield) won the GOP caucus’ endorsement for Speaker, securing 48 votes out of the 88 caucus members. Burrows garnered 14 in the third and final round of voting. Some caucus members walked out of the meeting after the first two rounds of voting and did not participate in the third round.
Despite the outcome of the caucus vote, Burrows, Lubbock Republican, is attempting to build a coalition with Democrats for his bid for Speaker.
