A Good Samaritan who stopped to help after a crash on Interstate 35W in Fort Worth was struck and killed by another vehicle early Friday morning, prompting a temporary closure of the freeway.
The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. on I-35W near Felix Street, south of downtown Fort Worth.
According to Fort Worth police, a major collision occurred on the highway, and another driver stopped to assist those involved. A passing vehicle then struck and killed the person who had stopped to help.
Police said one person involved in the initial crash was taken to a hospital.
Authorities shut down all lanes of I-35W between Seminary Drive and Interstate 20 while officers investigated the deadly crash. The closure lasted roughly four hours and caused significant traffic delays in the area.
The northbound lanes reopened around 6:20 a.m., followed by the southbound lanes about 20 minutes later. TxDOT issued alerts to motorists as the closure remained in place.
Police have not released the identity of the person who was killed. Authorities also have not said whether they arrested the driver of the vehicle that struck the Good Samaritan.
The investigation remains ongoing.
