Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker announced that she intends to run for a third term. She was speaking at a State of the City event hosted by the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce.
Also in her speech, Parker addressed national politics and world affairs affecting the city of Fort Worth.
“I mentioned the precarious state our national politics and the uncertainty across the world because quite frankly it does impact the state of the city; it’s all connected,” Parker said.
“In my opinion the measure of a truly great city is how you face significant issues and tackle them,” Parker added.
Parker highlighted how the council has been able to work together and reach a consensus despite different political backgrounds.
Parker also highlighted how the city has addressed homelessness and increased funding for Fort Worth Police.
Parker has received the endorsement of some councilmembers.
“I have told her privately so will state publicly: I am proud to endorse Mayor Mattie Parker for re-election, Council member Michael Crain said on his Facebook page. “Her steady leadership has fostered a thriving Fort Worth, prioritizing public safety, economic development and community engagement. With a commitment to lowering property taxes and enhancing educational opportunities, she has proven to be a dedicated advocate for all residents and I have enjoyed my time working alongside her.”
The Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce also gave awards to small businesses for their excellence in the community.
“What we learn, though this process, is that there are a lot of great entrepreneurs here,” Steve Montgomery, CEO and President of the Fort Worth Chamber, said. “Just some really amazing small business and at the same time, there’s a lot of opportunity, too.”
