Tarrant County Commissioner Alisa Simmons has accused a county employee and former political opponent of being involved in a conspiracy.
“Apparently, I’m not the only one in the know. There’s always something. Here’s what’s going on, guys! Apparently, a plan has been devised to position my former opponent for his fifth run for this Precinct 2 county commissioner seat,” Simmons wrote on X.
“The plan is to move Andy Nguyen from his role as chief of staff in the county judge’s office to chief of staff for the new tax assessor. While ‘working’ in the tax office, Nguyen will begin structuring his run for my seat, so it doesn’t look as slimy as running while an employee of the county judge. For that to happen, the current chief of staff must be fired (he can’t be fired because he’s protected by civil service), resign, or otherwise be forced out. So, watch the countdown clock…in 3-2-1 – the current Chief of Staff in the Tax Assessors’ office will announce his resignation,” Simmons continued.
Simmons also retweeted a post from the Lone Star Project, a far-left political group that claims Tarrant County’s commissioner district map will be gerrymandered this year. The post accuses Nguyen of being involved in a political scheme.
Nguyen hit back at Simmons, posting on X, “I have no intention or desire to run for Precinct 2 Commissioner. In fact, I recently closed my campaign account. Please consider fact-checking before posting misinformation.”
Simmons’ post has garnered reactions from Tarrant County residents.
“Here she go playing victim again. After all the nasty lies you tried to spread about our Sheriff Bill Waybourn you need to get out of the commissioner’s court. You did nothing to help TC and you tried to interfere with everything the rest of the court tried to do. Anybody will be better than you. Andy Nguyen actually works for the people and you just post garbage from this DC lobbying group that pretends to be for Texas,” Melissa McCourt commented on Facebook.
However, another netizen, Katie Sherrod, spoke up on Facebook in support of Simmons: “PLEASE pay attention. [County Judge] Tim O’Hare really wants to get rid of Alisa Simmons, the (to him) troublesome Black woman on the Commissioners Court because she is all about accountability and transparency, which, to say the least, Tim is not.”
This isn’t the first time Simmons has sparked controversy. During the 2020 election cycle, she ran for the Texas House District 94 seat and was caught in a profanity-laced tirade against a resident who asked her a question at a forum.
The Dallas Express reached out to Simmons’ office and her communications manager, Hector Mendez, for a comment but did not receive a response by the time of publication
