A Crowley ISD “Get Out The Vote” rally for students featured only Democratic candidates.
“So wanted to just say to you all real quickly how important it is for those of you who are eligible to vote, as well as those of you who are eligible to vote, as well as those of you who are not necessarily eligible to vote. You are still making an impact by showing up,” Crowley ISD Board President Daryl Davis said at Friday’s “Get Out The Vote” (GOTV) rally.
The rally was led by the organization March To The Polls.
“Our mission is to substantially increase electoral participation in underrepresented communities, primarily youth and people of color,” per the March To The Polls website.
“We are a non-profit and nonpartisan organization that focuses on voter education and engagement. And the event today is to get high school students who are going to be voters in the future excited about the opportunity that they have to participate,” March To The Polls Program Director for Student Voter Empowerment Clubs Jess Lugo told The Dallas Express.
Lugo told The Dallas Express that March To The Polls invites candidates from both sides. However, at the GOTV rally, only Democrat candidates were present — Carlos Walker for House District 97 and Roderick Miles for Tarrant County Commissioner Precinct 1.
Crowley ISD employees, such as Chief Communications Officer Anthony Kirchner, were also present.
The Dallas Express reached out to Crowley ISD to ask whether full-time employees were on the clock or took PTO for this rally and whether Republican candidates were invited, but did not receive a response.
