Five teenagers were injured in a Saturday afternoon crash involving students of the Waxahachie ISD, with the crash leaving a 16-year-old girl dead.

A report from the Texas Department of Public Safety suggests the crash happened around 2:30 p.m., when the driver of a Honda Accord could not negotiate a curve to the right in the 100 blocks of Shoreside Trail. The vehicle went off the left side of the roadway and struck a culvert before coming to a stop.

The driver of the Honda died at the scene. The DPS identified the driver as a 16-year-old girl, although they released no other details about her identity.

The other five occupants of the Honda were left with serious injuries and were taken to hospitals in the Dallas and Waxahachie areas. They were identified as a 16-year-old girl, a 17-year-old girl, a 16-year-old boy, and a 15-year-old boy, all from Waxahachie. DPS also added that another 17-year-old boy from Garland was among the injured teenagers.

Waxahachie ISD confirmed that multiple students of their district were involved in the crash.

“It is with great sadness that we have learned multiple Waxahachie ISD students were involved in a car accident this afternoon,” the district said in a statement. “While we are unable to share any information about the accident at this time, we ask that you please join the entire Waxahachie ISD family in praying for the young people involved in the accident, as well as their families, friends, and teachers.”
