The world’s most famous restaurant guide is coming back to Texas next month.
The MICHELIN Guide will hold its 2025 Texas award ceremony in Houston on October 28 at the Wortham Theater Center. At that time, chefs will find out whether their restaurants have earned one of the coveted stars.
Last year’s debut of the Texas edition made waves across the food scene, shining a spotlight on the Lone Star State’s best kitchens. The inaugural guide recognized 117 restaurants across five of Texas’ biggest cities: Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio. Overall, 15 restaurants earned a one-MICHELIN-star status, while two others received the MICHELIN Green Star for sustainability, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
Dallas made headlines with Tatsu, an edomae sushi bar in Deep Ellum, which became the only restaurant in the city to receive a star. Several others earned the “Bib Gourmand” designation, a coveted list of restaurants offering a good “value.”
“Texas’s culinary scene boasts a rich heritage, defined by its diverse flavors, unique cuisines, and remarkable talent – qualities that make it distinctly Texan. It offers something for every kind of traveler, and we look forward to unveiling our Inspectors’ findings in the coming months,” said MICHELIN’s International Director Gwendal Poullennec, in a press release announcing the Houston award show.
Gov. Greg Abbott has also praised the guide’s arrival, calling it a boost to the state’s economy and tourism.
“The coveted MICHELIN Stars rankings will have a lasting impact on the Texas economy, bringing travelers from around the world to experience the best Texas offers,” Abbott said in 2024.
The MICHELIN Guide has expanded across North America over the past two decades, beginning in New York in 2005. Texas joined the lineup in 2024, joining cities like Chicago, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco.
How did the company, MICHELIN, also known for manufacturing tires, become associated with the most prestigious award system in the culinary world?
The MICHELIN Guide started in 1900 as a free booklet from André and Édouard MICHELIN to encourage more people to drive, and as a result, buy more tires from the French brothers. The first guide included maps, gas stops, and places to eat or stay. By 1926, the dining tips had grown so popular that MICHELIN introduced its signature star ratings for restaurants, which has now slowly evolved into what we know it as today.
Dallas Restaurants in the 2024 MICHELIN Guide include:
- Tatsu (★ One Star)
- Cattleack (Bib Gourmand)
- Gemma (Bib Gourmand)
- Lucia (Bib Gourmand)
- Một Hai Ba (Bib Gourmand)
- Ngon Vietnamese Kitchen (Bib Gourmand)
- Nonna (Bib Gourmand)
- Goldee’s (Bib Gourmand)
“Last year marked a milestone for the Texas restaurant industry, and we’re excited to continue celebrating the state’s exceptional culinary talent at this year’s ceremony,” Poullenac added.
