Texas Congressman Chip Roy announced on Monday that he will be running for re-election in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2024.
Rep. Roy (R-TX) made the announcement in a social media post in which he wrote that he is running for re-election “to stop Washington from destroying America,” adding that “The uniparty and entrenched forces that are content with the status quo must be dismantled.”
The announcement featured a video in which Roy details some of the topics that he will focus his re-election campaign on, including the border and illegal drugs crises.
“$33 trillion in debt. Wide open borders. Fentanyl pouring in. China empowered. We’re going to change this town,” said Roy in one of the clips.
“I work for 750,000 Texans who want us to change Washington.”

Roy has represented Texas’ 21st congressional district since he was sworn into office in January 2019.
Prior to being elected, Roy served as first assistant attorney general under Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, chief of staff for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Senate Judiciary Committee staff director for Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), and a senior advisor to former Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
This announcement comes just days after Roy announced that he is endorsing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the presidential election.
Roy responded to a social media post made by DeSantis’ wife Casey, writing that he stands “100% alongside” Ron and his wife since “they are truly good & decent people.”
“America needs THAT again. I proudly fight for [Ron DeSantis] to be our GOP nominee for President because it’s time to [meet the moment] & WIN again,” wrote Roy in his post.
The most recent Republican primary polls from FiveThirtyEight have DeSantis polling at 12.4% — the second-highest among Republican candidates, trailing former President Donald Trump, who is polling at 59.9%.
A recent poll conducted by NBC concluded that Trump would defeat President Joe Biden if the two met in a head-to-head rematch of the 2020 election, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
