A Texas homeowner’s video surveillance camera captured a melee between a cat and a coyote on Thursday.

In the footage provided by Texas resident Tony Gray, the coyote chases the cat up onto a porch and aggressively tries to bite it. The cat hides under a deck chair, but the coyote remains undeterred and continues trying to get to the cat.

At one point in the video, the coyote can be seen snatching the cat with its mouth. Still, the agile feline gets away, evading the predator by jumping onto the porch railing and shimmying up a corner post.

Unable to reach the cat as it clings to the top of the post just under the porch overhang, the coyote gives up soon after and departs. The cat remains for a while longer, climbing back up every time it starts to slide down, until it eventually leaves the premises.

It is unknown what eventually became of the cat; there has been no word as to the identity of the cat’s owner or the feline’s location after it disappeared from the video.

The dust-up occurred in Surfside Beach, Texas, near the Gulf of Mexico. Locally known as Surfside, the town of about 480 residents has recently seen an uptick in coyote sightings.

Surfside Beach police acknowledged to local news affiliate KTRK-TV that there is a coyote problem in the area, and they are working with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to resolve the issue.

That cat was injured, don’t kid yourself. Cats shouldn’t be let out, in most cities it is unlawful to allow cats to roam.
