A job fair specifically for veterans will be held Thursday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

The Dallas Veterans Job Fair will take place May 4 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Some of the employers attending the event with booths include John Deere, National Oilwell Varco, Constellis, Combined Insurance, Trinity River Authority of Texas, Canon, and Ulterra Drilling Technologies.

The website describes it as “an event where job seekers with military experience can meet with recruiters from local and national companies.”

There will be a pre-event seminar at 10 a.m. titled “Key Components for a Successful Job Search Strategy,” presented by ACI Learning, which will cover “researching career options, identifying resources, building a strong professional network, and preparing for employer engagement,” according to the website.

The Texas Workforce Investment Council said in a 2021 report that experience in the military puts veterans in high demand.

“Many veterans have received extensive training in the military and possess valuable technical skills, leadership abilities, and the numerous soft skills (such as time management, team orientation, strong work ethic, etc.) that are in high demand by employers,” the report reads.

“These attributes make the veteran population a valuable resource for Texas employers and the Texas economy. The Texas workforce system must ensure that veterans are prepared for employment following their military service and that employers have access to every available skilled worker.”

However, the Texas Workforce Investment Council acknowledges that data on unemployment for veterans is somewhat limited in the state, but when compared to the national data, it can approximate the preciseness of the unemployment rate.

The unemployment rate for veterans is actually lower than the national average, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In 2022, the unemployment rate for veterans was 2.8%, lower than the rate for nonveterans of 3.6%.
