(Texas Scorecard) – Two illegal aliens have recently been taken into custody by ICE after having originally entered U.S. via Texas.
Darwin Andres Gomez Izquiel, a Venezuelan illegal alien, was first encountered by Border Patrol in October 2023 near the Del Rio Sector. He was issued an immigration hearing date for June 2024 in Memphis, Tennessee, released, and given instructions to check in with an ICE office at his destination.
According to the ICE report, there is no indication he complied with these instructions.
New York Police Department officers arrested Izquiel in January 2024 on charges of assaulting an officer, gang assault, obstruction of governmental administration, and disorderly conduct, but he was released the next day.
ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations New York City filed an immigration detainer against his release.
The retainer was approved, and Izquiel was incarcerated and remained in the custody of the New York City Department of Corrections until he was convicted of second-degree assault in July. He was then sentenced to a 364-day custodial term.
Izquiel has recently been re-arrested by ICE, and his removal is pending.
“Gomez-Izquiel is a criminal and threat to the public servants, residents, and businesses of New York City,” said ERO New York City Field Office Director Kenneth Genalo. “We will not allow our communities to become safe havens for noncitizens who refuse to abide by our laws. ERO New York City will continue to work with unending determination to apprehend and remove these violent criminal offenders.”
A second illegal alien from El Salvador, William Alexander Albanez-Herrera, was recently deported and handed over to El Salvadoran authorities. He was wanted in El Salvador and is a documented member of the M-13 gang.
Herrera was first encountered by Border Patrol in 2014 near Rio Grande City and was turned over and removed by ERO. ICE reports that he re-entered the country after his removal at an unknown date and location.
In August 2018, Interpol issued an international warrant for Herrera’s arrest.
ERO Washington was notified in May that Herrera was suspected to be residing in northern Virginia.
In July, he was found and arrested during a targeted operation in Woodridge, Virginia, and was served a notice of intent to reinstate a prior removal order. He was deported earlier this month.
“William Alexander Albanez-Herrera blatantly ignored U.S. immigration laws and attempted to flee justice by hiding out in Virginia,” said ERO Washington, D.C. Field Office Director Liana Castano. “We refuse to allow our Washington, D.C. and Virginia neighborhoods to become safe havens for the world’s criminals. Albanez-Herrera has been returned to El Salvador to face some serious charges there. ERO Washington D.C. will continue to prioritize public safety by apprehending and removing egregious noncitizen offenders from our communities.”
Over 8 million illegal aliens have entered the U.S. since the Biden-Harris administration took office in 2021, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
