Two separate Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) traffic stops reportedly revealed multiple drugs and illicit firearms this week.
The first stop was made on U.S. 81 in Wise County on Tuesday.
On July 5, the trooper stopped the vehicle for a traffic violation, executing a probable cause search on the vehicle after noticing indications of criminal activity.
DPS said the search yielded drugs, allegedly including one pound of marijuana, 200 pills of suspected fentanyl, and two pounds of methamphetamine. Anabolic steroids were also discovered.
The trooper also reportedly seized two illegal firearms from the vehicle as well as cash. The Drug Enforcement Administration will proceed with an investigation.
Further information on the search is not available.
Two days later, the DPS made another drug and firearm bust in La Salle County when a black Hyundai passenger car was stopped by a trooper while driving south on Interstate 35.
The trooper allegedly found a bundle of marijuana wrapped in plastic, which the department said weighed 1.38 pounds.
Three firearms were also reportedly recovered, including two high-powered automatic rifles and one handgun. According to the DPS, the handgun had been illegally configured to accept rifle magazines.
Authorities arrested 29-year-old Jesus Alfredo Garcia, the vehicle’s driver, and 50-year-old Alejandra Del Rayo Alvarado. The two arrestees are from the Texas cities San Ygnacio and Laredo, respectively.
Garcia and Alvarado were both charged with firearms smuggling and possession of marijuana and taken to the La Salle County jail.
