A hearing for one of the suspects in a multiple aggravated robberies case will be held on Wednesday in Austin after a string of robberies that occurred in June.

The Austin Police Department apprehended two suspects in connection with the robberies, one of whom was a juvenile.

The first, 17-year-old Marcir Tyler, was detained on June 19 following an interview with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office. He is accused of being involved in several instances of aggravated robbery.

On July 6, Austin Police Department officers responded to a SWAT call for the execution of warrants related to a series of area robberies. After descending upon an area in north Austin, they arrested 20-year-old Jaleel Hureskin, whose hearing is set for Wednesday.

Tyler is charged with four counts of aggravated robbery and Hureskin with three, each of which is a first-degree felony.

Texas has no specific sentencing guidelines for aggravated robbery; if convicted, the two could face anywhere between five and 99 years or life in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000 for each count.

From June 1 to June 16, four robberies occurred within Austin city limits, most of which occurred in a north Austin neighborhood: first, a 7-11 at 1624 E. Howard Ln. on June 1; second, a QuickTrip at 501 W. Wells Branch Pkwy. on June 13; third, a Waffle House at 12304 Dessau Rd. on June 14; and fourth, a Subway at 3407 W. Wells Branch Pkwy. on June 16.

The two may face additional charges in Travis County. APD reported at least three other potentially related cases occurred outside the department’s jurisdiction: “The Travis County Sheriff’s Office is investigating three more aggravated robberies believed to have been committed by Tyler and Hureskin.”

Businesses, victims, and security videos assisted authorities in identifying the potential perpetrators based on the stolen merchandise and clothing worn by robbers during the robberies.

Police executed search warrants early on the morning of July 6 at two different apartment units located in the 1500 block of East Howard Lane.

Hureskin reportedly “made several admissions about the robberies” when detectives interviewed him. APD searched the apartment where he was staying, finding evidence that connected him to the burglaries.

Police searched a second apartment unit because the APD suspected a mutual friend of the two suspects resided in the unit they were searching. The suspects could reportedly be seen on surveillance tape entering and exiting the flat both before and after the robberies while wearing clothing identical to what had been worn in the robberies.

According to APD, “evidence was also seized from that second apartment.”

Two other men with outstanding felony warrants were apprehended during this SWAT raid. However, according to APD, neither of these men had any connection to the robberies.

Several agencies, including the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Bureau (ATF), worked with the Austin Police Department to make arrests.
