Two people were killed and two wounded during a shooting within a Houston residence on Thanksgiving Day.
Houston police received a report of a shooting at the 1500 block of Baggett Lane in Spring Branch at 9:18 p.m. Officers arrived five minutes later and found that four people — three adults and one teenager — had been shot inside the house.
A man and a woman were declared dead at the scene, while the two survivors — another adult male and a teenager — were transported to a hospital. The man is in critical condition while the teenager, aged 15, is in stable condition.
The ex-husband of the deceased female allegedly entered the home through its backdoor while the family was wrapping up their Thanksgiving dinner. He then reportedly opened fire on them before fleeing.
“There were four other people inside the house. As soon as they heard the shooting, they ran to the rooms for safety,” said HPD Assistant Chief Patricia Cantu in a briefing on November 24. “The suspect unloaded multiple rounds and reloaded the firearm at least once during the rampage,” she continued.
The identities of the shooter and victims remained unknown at the time of publication.
“This is a very sad situation. It’s Thanksgiving. People are supposed to celebrate with their families,” said Cantu.
The motive for the shooting is also currently unknown.
Cantu further explained that the police department will reach out for the public’s help to find and identify the shooter when more information becomes available.
