President Donald Trump recently shared several compliments and endorsements for various Republican leaders in Texas, praising the state’s new congressional map as a strategic victory for the GOP in preparation for the 2026 midterms.

However, Trump did issue strong criticism towards a politician from Texas.

Through posts on his Truth Social platform, Trump praised Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick for their leadership on issues such as border security and economic growth, before targeting outgoing House Speaker Dade Phelan.

Trump’s remarks came at a crucial time for Texas politics: Republicans in the state legislature recently passed a new congressional map that the party hopes will create five additional Republican-leaning seats, boosting its House majority status.

In his first Texas-themed post on Tuesday, Trump called Patrick a “terrific and powerful Lieutenant Governor” and cited Patrick’s long support for his campaigns. He said Patrick played a “pivotal” role in the redistricting effort and described it as a “HUGE VICTORY for our America First Agenda.”

“A True Friend to MAGA from the very beginning, Dan Patrick has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election – HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!,” Trump wrote.

The President then laid out priorities for Patrick’s next term: securing the border, tackling crime committed by undocumented immigrants, combating the drug trade, reducing taxes, promoting American manufacturing, expanding school choice, and defending Second Amendment rights.

Later that same day, Trump turned to Phelan, mentioning that the former speaker would not seek re-election due to some internal GOP tensions. He criticized Phelan for blocking bills on voter integrity and school choice, declaring his departure as “fortunately” timed for Texas.

“Fortunately for the Great State of Texas, their Former Speaker, who is no longer Speaker, Dade Phelan, is quitting Politics. He was the one responsible for killing every Bill having to do with Voter Integrity and School Choice,” the President posted.

Also on Tuesday, this time around 5 pm, Trump capped off his posts on leaders in Texas by endorsing Abbott once again, calling him the “strong and highly respected Governor of Texas, a State I love and WON BIG three times.”

“Thanks to Greg’s bold and effective Leadership, the wonderful people of Texas will have the opportunity to elect 5 new MAGA Republicans in the 2026 Midterm Elections with the passage of their new, fair, and much improved, Congressional Map — A BIG WIN for Republicans in The Lone Star State, and across the Country!” Trump wrote.

“Greg Abbott has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election. He is an exceptional Governor and man — HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!” added Trump.

Abbott, who won his third term in 2022 and is up for re-election in 2026, thanked Trump for his endorsement and reiterated his commitment to keeping Texas red, safe, and prosperous.
