President Donald Trump has endorsed candidates running against four individuals backed by Gov. Greg Abbott, marking one of the clearest splits between the two Republican leaders in the 2026 Texas primaries.
On Friday night, Trump endorsed Don Huffines in the Republican primary for Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts and Sid Miller for re-election as Agriculture Commissioner.
Those endorsements added two statewide contests to races where Trump had already weighed in:
-
Alex Mealer in Congressional District 9
-
Carlos De La Cruz in Congressional District 35
In each of the four contests, Abbott has endorsed the opposing candidate.

Trump granted Huffines and Miller his “Complete and Total Endorsement” in Truth Social posts Friday evening.
A Four-for-Four Divide
Trump has now backed candidates running against Abbott-endorsed opponents in four high-profile Texas races.
Texas political operatives note that former presidents rarely intervene across multiple contests where a sitting governor has already taken a position.
Texas voters will determine the Republican nominees in the March 3 primary.
