Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has launched an investigation into fast-fashion retailer Shein US Services LLC and its affiliates for possible violations of state law involving unethical labor practices and the sale of unsafe products.

“Safe, non-toxic material and products are another key ingredient to the Make America Healthy Again movement. Any company that cuts corners on labor standards or product safety, especially those operating in foreign nations like China, will be held accountable,” Paxton said in a statement. “Texans deserve to know that the companies they buy from are ethical, safe, transparent, and not exploiting workers or selling harmful products. I will not allow cheap, dangerous, foreign goods to flood America and jeopardize our health.”

The probe focuses on whether the company’s supply chain includes forced labor or hazardous materials, misleads shoppers about product safety and ethical sourcing, and improperly handles consumer data.

Shein, an online-only retailer known for low-cost clothing, accessories, and home goods, reported more than $30 billion in global revenue in 2023. Multiple reports have questioned its manufacturing practices and marketing claims in recent years.

The investigation will also review Shein’s data-collection methods and potential privacy risks to U.S. customers.
