Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham announced that state veterans cemeteries achieved a 99.28% customer satisfaction rating for the third consecutive year, according to a Department of Veterans Affairs survey.
The high marks reflect Texas’ commitment to honoring military veterans and their families through dignified burial services at four state-run cemeteries.
The 2025 National Cemetery Administration State and Tribal Veterans Cemeteries Satisfaction Survey showed a slight improvement from previous scores of 99.03% in 2023 and 99.11% in 2024. The Veterans Land Board, which Buckingham chairs, operates cemeteries in Mission, Corpus Christi, Abilene, and Killeen.
“As Chairwoman, caring for our Veterans and their families, including Veterans being laid to rest, is something we take very seriously and will always be a top priority,” said Commissioner Buckingham. “The men and women who staff our VLB State Veteran Cemeteries continue to achieve excellence, and I cannot thank them enough for their hard work.”
A fifth cemetery in Lubbock is scheduled to open in December 2025. The expansion comes as Texas continues serving one of the nation’s largest veteran populations.
Buckingham added, “As we work to open our fifth state Veterans cemetery in December, it’s my promise to all Texans to continue to provide the highest quality of service to Texas Veterans and their families.”
The commissioner made history in 2022 as Texas’ first female Land Commissioner. Her office oversees disaster recovery, energy resources, public education funding, and border security, as well as veteran services.
