Texas added more jobs than any other state over the past 12 months, gaining 198,300 positions and setting new employment records, Gov. Greg Abbott announced.

The June data shows 15.2 million Texans are now working—the highest number in state history.

“Thanks to the strength of the Texas economy, more Texans are working than ever before,” said Abbott. “While we pause to celebrate job gains over the year, we also recognize the strength of Texans throughout this disaster and the outpouring of support from our fellow Americans over the last two weeks.”

The state’s labor force reached 15.85 million people in June, another record high. Unemployment dropped to 4.0%, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and Texas Workforce Commission.

Texas job growth outpaced the national rate from June 2024 to June 2025. The gains span multiple sectors as businesses continue to relocate to and expand within the state.

Meanwhile, Abbott’s administration has launched disaster unemployment assistance for flood victims in designated areas. Affected residents can apply for benefits through September 4 by calling (800) 939-6631 or applying online.

“We stand with Texas communities as we work together to recover and rebuild,” Abbott said.
