State Sen. Taylor Rehmet (D-District 9) faces questions from the Republican Party of Texas over homestead tax exemptions on a Fort Worth house that online listings advertise for $2,895 a month.

The party identifies itself as the advertiser behind RehmetPaysZero.com, which posts property-tax and financial-disclosure screenshots to question whether the Delga Street house qualifies as Rehmet’s principal residence.

The Dallas Express reached out to Rehmet for comment but did not receive a response before publication.

Records cited in the allegations

The website links to Tarrant Appraisal District records for a house on Delga Street, a lot on Portland Street and a house on Stanmire Lake Trail. An exemption screenshot the site attributes to the Delga Street property lists a general residence homestead exemption and a 100% disabled-veteran exemption under Tax Code Section 11.131.

A disclosure page the website identifies as part of Rehmet’s January 26, 2026, personal financial statement lists the Delga Street and Stanmire Lake Trail properties as sources of rental income.

The site also displays a Zillow listing screenshot advertising the Delga Street house for $2,895 per month and marking it available for rent. The website dates that capture to October 12.

A separate Trulia listing also advertises the house for $2,895 a month and gives August 11 as the listing date.

Another screenshot, attributed to the Tarrant County Tax Office, shows a $0 levy and $0 amount due for the Delga Street property for 2026.

A voter-registration screenshot posted by the site shows a Carver Avenue address, rather than Delga Street, with the house number obscured.

What Texas law requires

Texas residence homestead exemptions generally require an owner to use the property as a principal residence. The 100% disabled-veteran exemption applies to a qualifying veteran’s residence homestead, rather than every property the veteran owns, the Texas Comptroller explains.

Texas law allows a qualifying homestead to retain that status when an owner rents out part of the structure. It also allows certain temporary absences, including an absence of less than two years when the owner intends to return and does not establish a different principal residence.

The central unanswered question is whether Rehmet occupied the Delga Street house as his principal residence during the relevant tax period or qualified for an exception. The posted records and advertisements do not resolve that question or establish his final tax liability.

Earlier electioneering concerns

In a separate matter, The Dallas Express previously reported that Carroll Independent School District Superintendent Jeremy Glenn raised electioneering concerns after Rehmet’s Senate office requested recognition during an October 16 football game.

Separate campaign fundraising emails dated August 31, September 18 and September 23 reached a Carroll ISD email account, according to records obtained by The Dallas Express. Those emails did not establish that the campaign deliberately targeted district employees or that the district used its resources to support Rehmet.

Rehmet faces Republican Leigh Wambsganss in the November 3 general election for Senate District 9.
