Texas may implement a new plan that will directly transport illegal aliens to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities for faster processing and deportation procedures.
Under the proposed plan, still awaiting approval from Gov. Greg Abbott, chartered buses would transport illegal aliens from border cities directly to federal detention centers, where ICE agents would handle their processing, according to Fox News.
This would be a big change from the current practice under Operation Lone Star, where tens of thousands of migrants have been bussed out to Democratic-led cities such as New York, Chicago, and Washington D.C., in an effort to combat the southern border crisis.
A Texas-based source familiar with the new proposal, speaking to the New York Post, said that the goal is to facilitate faster processing for illegal aliens.
Meanwhile, state officials have also offered land to the incoming Trump administration to build new deportation centers, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham recently visited the border and said that several state-owned properties are ready to house these facilities as soon as the Trump administration takes office.
Amidst the ongoing discussions about border security and new deportation policies, authorities have raised some concerning alarms over the increasing number of unaccompanied children being found near the border.
In recent days, Texas state troopers have encountered several young children, some of whom were separated from their families by human smugglers commonly referred to as “coyotes.”
On Thursday, a 10-year-old boy from El Salvador was found alone in Maverick County near the Rio Grande River, as seen in a heartbreaking video posted to X by a spokesperson with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Lt. Chris Olivarez.
The boy, visibly distressed, told authorities that he had been abandoned by the smuggler who had been guiding him through the border area. Holding a cell phone, the boy said he had been trying to contact his parents, who were already in the U.S.
The viral video of the boy followed another alarming discovery on Sunday when troopers found a 2-year-old girl from El Salvador, also alone and holding a piece of paper with her name and phone number. She, too, told officers that her parents were already in America, according to Fox News.
State troopers recently encountered a large group of illegal aliens in Maverick County, the area where the children were found.
Among the 211 people apprehended during the encounter were 60 unaccompanied minors ranging from ages 2 to 17.
