Two Texas teenagers were injured on Monday after allegedly attempting to break into an SUV with a family still inside, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

On July 11, around midnight in the 6800 block of Feather Creek Drive in Houston, a couple and their two young children arrived at their residence when two 16-year-old males reportedly approached the SUV, and one of the teens opened a rear door.

The father opened fire out of fear for his family’s safety, striking both suspects, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

After the shooting, the wife, who was behind the wheel, drove off to avoid the suspects. Then, a car driven by an unidentified man believed to be associated with the teens pulled up to the scene.

Surveillance footage from a neighbor’s Ring camera obtained by KHOU shows the incident. Four gunshots can be heard in the video.

The suspects were both transported to hospitals by private vehicles. They are reportedly in fair condition.

An investigation is underway. The sheriff did not announce charges against the teenagers.
