A Texas man who allegedly admitted to a female coworker that he was planning a shooting massacre was arrested by San Antonio police on Monday, local news station KSAT reported.
The suspect, 19-year-old Rodolfo Valdivia Aceves, was a subcontractor for an Amazon Delivery Station in San Antonio. Police were called on Tuesday after Aceves’ coworker claimed he had made some disturbing remarks the week before.
The witness reported to the police that Aceves made the remarks last Friday, when all Amazon employees had to exit the building after a fire alarm went off.
According to the witness, Aceves apparently noted aloud to her that it would be a good idea to sound the fire alarm to get workers out of the building so someone could carry out a mass shooting. He then declared his intention to do so.
The worker said she did not notify anyone on Friday because she was worried about retaliation. Nevertheless, on Monday, she decided to inform her superiors because, in light of other comments Aceves had made previously, she believed he was capable of carrying out the act.
Aceves apparently idolized the 18-year-old gunman who fatally shot 19 children and two teachers in Uvalde last month, according to the coworker’s statements.
She also claimed that he said “he would now know what school to go to and shoot up” after learning where her children went to school.
The witness said that Aceves previously stated that he was “tired of living” and that he currently has a handgun and a rifle.
Aceves was taken into Bexar County jail and charged with making a terroristic threat. Jail records show he has been released on a $50,000 bond.
Aceves’ father, who was brought in for questioning, reportedly told investigators that his son had purchased a rifle and that because of his previous behavior, family members were afraid of him now that he had a weapon.
The father revealed that Aceves had previously struggled with mental illness and had been in a mental facility on two occasions at the age of 16. Aceves was prescribed medication but stopped taking it after a few years, according to the father.
