Texas created more jobs than any other state over the past year, adding 213,300 positions from May 2024 to May 2025.

Governor Greg Abbott announced the achievement on Tuesday, citing new federal employment data.

The milestone underscores Texas’s continued economic expansion as businesses relocate to the state. Job growth has become a key political talking point ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial race.

“Texas is America’s undisputed jobs engine,” Governor Abbott said in a news release. “Texas again leads the nation for the most jobs created over the last 12 months. Working with the Texas Legislature, we had the most successful legislative session that furthered pro-growth policies, expanding career and technical training programs and removing unnecessary regulatory barriers for businesses. The policies I signed into law mean more paychecks and more opportunities for Texas families to thrive.”

Texas also topped monthly job creation in May, adding 28,100 positions. The state’s growth rate exceeds the national average, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data.

Abbott’s administration has overseen the creation of more than 2.53 million jobs since taking office. The governor pointed to recent legislative victories, including expanded technical training programs and reduced business regulations.

Last month, Texas broke records for total employment, workforce participation, and labor force size. The sustained growth comes as other states grapple with slower hiring and economic uncertainty.
