Acclaimed filmmaker Taylor Sheridan will write, produce, and direct a movie about the Battle of the Alamo for the world’s most technologically advanced 4D theater, part of the new Alamo Visitor Center and Museum opening in 2027, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced.
The state-of-the-art immersive experience will use dynamic visual effects, sound, and physical elements to recreate the 1836 siege for visitors, nearly 190 years after the event.
Patrick said he knew immediately who should lead the project after reviewing the theater plans.
“Once I saw the plan for the theater, I knew there was only one screenwriter, film producer, and director in the world to make this film for the Alamo Museum – Taylor Sheridan,” Patrick said.
“Over the last decade, Taylor has told the story of the American West – the people, the land, the depth, and the history – in a way no other filmmaker has. In addition to his amazing film portfolio, Taylor is a native Texan who knows and loves our state and its history.
“I reached out to Taylor and asked if he would consider filming and directing this historic project at the Alamo. Despite his incredible schedule, he did not hesitate before enthusiastically answering yes.”
Sheridan, a Fort Worth native and Academy Award nominee, accepted without pause. “The Alamo is the very bedrock Texas was founded upon. To chronicle the sacrifice made by the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives defending the Alamo is an honor I eagerly accept,” he said.
Patrick described the partnership as a major boost for the state.
“This is an amazing gift from Taylor, and a big win for Texas, from this iconic and gifted storyteller, screenwriter, and director,” Patrick said. “He has agreed to join us in telling the story of the Battle of the Alamo for the millions who will visit the Alamo in the years to come. I am reaching out to the Board of the Alamo Trust, who is managing the Alamo restoration plan, and I know they will be as excited as I am about this opportunity.”
His prolific output has earned him multiple Western Heritage Bronze Wrangler awards for fictional television drama, numerous Emmy and Hollywood Critics Association nominations, and more than 30 wins and 60 nominations overall, cementing his reputation as one of the most commercially successful and influential storytellers of the contemporary American West.
Filming is currently underway in the North Texas town of Frisco for Sheridan’s newest production, “Frisco King,” a spin-off of his hit comedy-drama television series “Tulsa King” that stars Sylvester Stallone.
