A small aircraft that suddenly lost power was forced to make an emergency landing on a Granbury public road Monday morning.
According to NBC, the pilot had no choice on July 18 but to land his plane on Pearl Street, a business section of Highway 377. He landed south of the airport, about a quarter mile from the runway.
Upon landing, the landing gear failed, forcing the pilot to perform a belly landing.
The Federal Aviation Administration identified the aircraft as a 1974 Aero Commander 112 owned by the 67-year-old pilot, James Winston Jr. The one passenger on board was 26-year-old Justin Winston. Both men are residents of Tolar, Texas.
Neither man was injured, but the plane suffered damage to its propeller blades, a wing, and the fuselage. The aircraft was removed from the roadway in the early afternoon, and traffic resumed without incident.
The FAA is investigating the cause of the airplane engine’s power loss.
