The Republican nominee for the Texas House District 62 seat, Shelley Luther, will be holding a major campaign event this week.
The event will be in Grayson County on the evening of Oct. 24, one of several counties in the mostly rural North Texas district where she is seeking office. It will be from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at a location that is only disclosed upon completion of registration.
The online registration portal calls it the “Dueling Pianos Fundraiser for Shelley Luther.”
The description promises a night of music, fun and support for conservatives: “Shelley Luther is our conservative champion and Republican Nominee for Texas House! Her husband, Tim, is a rockstar pianist who has traveled the globe playing with world-famous artists. Come sing along with Tim and his dueling partner, Joel, and help us raise money for Shelley Luther!”
There are several different levels of tickets available for prospective attendees, but half have sold out. There are still many tickets available, however.
Several hundred attendees were already expected at the time of a conversation The Dallas Express had with Luther earlier this week.
This effort comes as Republicans have pulled out all the stops to ensure Texas stays red in the Nov. 5 general election. Luther recently appeared before a crowd in Tom Bean to encourage attendees to “vote Red all the way down the ballot.”
Immediately after the rally, a tractor parade was held in support of former President Donald Trump’s bid for the presidency.
Luther came to prominence in Texas politics when she was jailed in 2020 for defying COVID-19 mandates and reopening her Dallas salon. Subsequently, she survived a brain aneurysm and twice unsuccessfully sought election to office in Texas. On her third attempt, she defeated incumbent Rep. Reggie Smith for the Republican nomination in what is widely considered to be a safe Republican district.
