Republican nominee for Texas House District 62 Shelley Luther and Rep. Nate Schatzline have expressed their sympathies for former President Donald Trump following the failed assassination attempt in Butler County, Pennsylvania, over the weekend.

“I’m hoping this tragedy can bring Americans together. Violence should never be an option, and I’m horrified that it has come to this,” Luther said to The Dallas Express.

“God definitely has His hand on our future president, and I’m looking forward to seeing Donald Trump save our country,” she added.

“It has never been more clear that we are in a battle for the future of America, and President Trump is on the frontlines! First, his reputation was attacked, then the establishment attempted to imprison him, and now he has taken a bullet for us!” Schatzline (R-Fort Worth) said.

“[Trump] is, and always will be, my president. It’s time to unite in prayer for President Trump, the family of the man who lost his life while exercising his freedom of speech, and all others who were hurt as a result of yesterday’s attack. Let’s take back America!” he added.

Luther is the Dallas salon owner who became a household name after she was jailed in the spring of 2020 for resisting COVID-19 lockdown orders. She recently defeated long-time incumbent Rep. Reggie Smith (R-Sherman) to capture the Republican nomination to represent Texas House District 62.

Schatzline is a Christian pastor who was first elected to represent Fort Worth-based Texas House District 93 in 2022.

Luther and Schatzline are two of a number of Texas political figures who have spoken to DX in the aftermath of the attempt on the former president’s life, which resulted in the death of one bystander and the wounding of two others.

Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX), for instance, recently expressed his sympathy for Trump, while former Dallas County sheriff candidate Kirk Launius called this a “time for patriots.”

Many prominent metroplex Democrats, including the bulk of the Dallas City Council, did not respond to requests for comment.
