Republican candidates secured significant victories both statewide and locally in Texas.

In Denton County, Republican Sheriff Tracy Murphree won re-election with 59.64% of the vote, defeating Democratic candidate Frederick Bishop, who earned 40.36%.

In Tarrant County, Sheriff Bill Waybourn also won re-election, receiving 53.72% of the vote against Patrick Moses, who garnered 46.28%. Waybourn’s race drew attention after activist groups accused him of mismanagement and poor conditions at the county jail.

Another highly contested race was the Senate race. Despite being one of the most competitive and expensive Senate races in the country, Senator Ted Cruz won decisively with 53% of the vote, defeating Democratic candidate Colin Allred, who received 44.6%. Cruz narrowly lost Tarrant County to Allred by just 1,251 votes.

Former President Donald Trump carried Texas with the largest margin of victory since 2012, winning 56.2% of the vote compared to Kamala Harris’ 42.4%. The last time a Republican candidate won Texas by double digits was in 2012, when Mitt Romney, the GOP presidential nominee against Barack Obama, won the state by 16 percentage points.

Trump also won Tarrant County with 51.9% of the vote. In contrast, he narrowly lost the county to Joe Biden in 2020 by less than a percentage point, as reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The results have been met with praise by Republican officials in the state.

“Texans know who will slash inflation, secure our southern border, unleash American energy, and crack down on violent crime—and that’s Donald Trump. Texans rejected Kamala Harris’ radical leftist agenda and voted to restore freedom, prosperity, and opportunity for all Americans,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott wrote in a statement, reported FWST.

“WE JUST TOOK BACK OUR COUNTRY!  Congratulations @realDonaldTrump It’s time to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” state representative Nate Schatzline (R-Fort Worth) posted on X.

“Congrats to my good friend Sheriff @BillWaybourn
– the best Sheriff in America, on his decisive victory. Law and order carries the day again in Tarrant County,” Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare posted on X.
Tarrant County Republican Chairman Bo French highlighted Tuesday’s victory in an email sent to precinct chairs.
“We played our role in making sure Donald Trump was elected to be the 47th President, Ted Cruz will return to the Senate in a new majority, and every Tarrant county-wide Republican won in crushing numbers,” French said in a statement.
“We even flipped a Constable seat from blue to red! To every one of you who worked hard this election, I say thank you. I can’t wait to see you on Saturday for our EC meeting. In the meantime, rest up and savor this sweet victory,” French continued.
